Mental health is a vital part to student success. Without positive mental health, students can struggle academically, socially, spiritually, emotionally, and sometimes physically. Stress is a normal part of life and being mentally healthy enables us all to endure, persevere, and get through tough times. The purpose of this page is not to say that life should be easy for our students and children, but that we should be helping them develop the skills to get through difficult times and crisis.

There are several resources at the school to support your child with mental health:

Family School Liaison Worker (FSLW/Social Worker)— Kalinda Gauthier, is here on Tuesdays, Fridays, and every other Thursday. Kalinda is available to support both students and families through difficult, confusing, or overwhelming times. Kalinda can be reached through St. Hilda’s main phone line, 780-462-3195.

Mental Health Therapist—St. Hilda has access to a referral process that allows students to meet with a Mental Health Therapist during school hours. This service would be offered to students who have persistent or chronic mental health needs or identify as having mental health disorder that is not otherwise being treated.

Any staff member in school can be a source of support for students. Talking to an adult they know and are most comfortable with can sometimes be the most therapeutic action to take. Staff will inform students if it is beyond their scope of practice and may refer them to the FSLW or other supports, if needed.

This list provides contact information for various agencies and programs that assist with particular issues, or offer support for particular demographics. They are updated twice yearly, in May and November, and may be printed for personal or agency use.
