March 2021

March Principal Message

March is such an important month as we are well into our Lenten Season. Why is this so important? Lent is the season to observe and commemorate the passion (suffering), death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the son of God, our Savior and Redeemer. It is an opportune time to reflect on what it means to be a follower of Christ. During this time let us do these things as we prepare for Easter.

Lent is also a reminder that Spring is around the corner. Despite having a mild winter, it is nice to see the longer days and warmer weather. Spring also is the start of our planning for next year at the school level. We look at our registration numbers and decide how many home rooms we will need, what the schedule will look like and what teachers are going to teach what classes. With that in mind, I really encourage families to fill the online intention form. This will really help not only St. Hilda, but the division as we start to put things into place. Please consider carefully if you are thinking about enrolling your child in online school. While online school may seem appealing it only suits those handful of students that are self-motivated and independent learners. If your child is currently online and is struggling with completing their work, attendance and staying focused, these are signs that online schooling is not for them. Detailed information was sent out February 27th via Swift. Please contact us for further information concerning the intention forms if you are wanting your child online.

Parent teacher interviews will be taking place on Thursday, March 11th from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm and from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Hopefully, your child’s teachers have been in touch with you with any concerns, so you do not have to make any appointments if this has taken place in the last few weeks. As always, you are encouraged to contact your child’s teachers at any time to discuss your child’s academic progress. You are not limited to these nights. Also, you are encouraged to look on PowerSchool for the most up to date information concerning assessments and progress. It is highly recommended to do this together with your child. If you have any technical issues or questions, please contact us and we will help you.

Lastly, here are a few reminders of important dates in March. Firstly, Thursday, March 18th is a division wide Faith Development Day. This is for staff only and therefore students will not have school on this day. Secondly, Spring Break starts on Monday, the 29th and students will have the week off. This means that Thursday March 25th will be a full day and Friday March 26 will be a half day.

During this time, on behalf of the staff of St. Hilda School, I wish everyone a peaceful, restful spring break and a happy Easter. We look forward to serving your children when they return in the month of April.
